Re-education

The government of BangBangDuc eventually bowed to internation pressure and abolished the death penalty for drug smuggling. They were still determined, though, to appear extremely tough on these people praying on peoples' misery. The compromise was debated and passed through parliament. Both men and women smugglers were given life sentances with an element of re-education in the hope they could be re-introduced to the community. The scheme was ground-breaking and other countries were watching developements closely.

Crime and Punishment

By the year 2015 Britain had had enough of the increasing violence that blighted it’s streets. The drug and biker gangs and organised syndicates had been fighting for control of the major cities and it didn’t seem to matter how many they locked up, the murders, rapes, thefts, organised prostitution of unwilling girls and corruption continued unabated.

The 2015 Crime, Punishment and Re-Education Bill conceived by the new Prime Minister Antonia Blah received Royal Consent and so the fightback started.

With sweeping new powers at their command, the authorities cracked down hard on the criminal gangs, with the full backing of the innocent public. Crime figures dropped alarmingly as the number of convicted felons multiplied. The solution to an unsustainable number of criminals to lock up in prison was where the ‘Re-education’ section of the bill came into play.

Aggresive and anti-social tendencies were removed by intensive electro-shock therapy, hypnotherapy and a strict but short training period. Geneticists and Britains renowned pharmaceutical companies had come up with new drugs to assist in the training.

The cost was negligible – prostitution became a recognised and legal activity, paying taxes and using the old, redundant prisons as registered brothels.The proceeds of crime were seized immediately, with international cooperation to grant access to offshore accounts. Some of the guilty were exported or leased to private citizens. The scheme was self-financing within 5 years.
